The 3 Nominees for Breakfast Innovation

Red Lion & Troutbeck Guest House, Wiltshire, UK

It’d take stern self-discipline not to over-indulge during dinner at this fabulous Michelin-starred pub (you’d be a fool not to; the food is sublime, and the wines perfectly matched). Which is why you’ll be delighted to find hangover cures by your bed, and the ingredients for a Bloody Mary or Buck’s Fizz on the breakfast table. A perfect pick-me-up, alongside a home-smoked bacon on sourdough.

Berdoulat & Breakfast, Bath, UK

B&B is taken to a whole new level at this beautiful guesthouse in central Bath. First and foremost a family home, it’s infused with a relaxed vibe, and in the mornings owners Neri and Patrick cook up superb feasts which reflect their joint heritage. Choose between a zingy Turkish spread (crispy halloumi, feta-filled bogrek pastries and a herby salad with pomegranate) or a Full English (locally sourced sausages, eggs and bacon) – both delicious.

Six Senses Douro Valley, Portugal

Alongside the biggest and best breakfast buffet we’ve ever seen (not to brag but we’ve seen a lot) sits something we’d never seen before: a ‘make your own herbal tea’ station. Fresh mint, of course, but also lemon verbena, sage, thyme, lemongrass and aquatic mint. Super cool.
